Contrary to how it may appear, my wife and I were NOT the models for this German book that teaches children where babies come from. Click the pages to see the whole book.
We have a new home phone number, we've relied on our cell phones for the last few years, but don't always have them on us, or have them charged or turned on when people are trying to call. So, if you're trying to reach us at home, use (319)-553-1210, which is actually service provided by Vonage over my cable modem.
I'm spending this week in Ventura, Iowa, helping my grandparents bring in the harvest. My dad flew out from Las Vegas to help too. I've spent the last two afternoons chopping corn stalks, which is damned near impossible to screw up, which is probably why they gave me that job...
The President of our University, Robert Koob, announced his retirement this morning. I introduced him to speak at an event yesterday, and during his talk, he alluded to an announcement that would be coming, but I didn't think this was it. We should be in for some changes at work, which is both exciting and scary. Now we're not only going to be getting a new Provost, but a new President as well.
Damn those Nebraska Cornhuskers. Actually, I can't blame them, ISU blew that game. If they're serious about moving up to the next tier of college football teams, they need to learn to win, and this game was completely winnable. That said, I still hate the Huskers.
Today marks my parents' 35th wedding anniversary. Congrats Mom & Dad! For those of you keeping score at home, this means I narrowly missed being a bastard by nearly six years.
So, I just found out that one of my best friends from junior high is now in prison. Another classmate was trying to find out where people were now, to possibly plan a reunion next year, and she called his house (he was in the phonebook) where his ex-wife filled her in. Here's his inmate record, he's not eligible for parole until 2011, so I don't think he's going to make it. I have to say, I'm completely stunned.
Here's the obituary for Holly's grandmother:
