Back to work

We've begun the voyage home, though our next flight doesn't leave Nadi for another 5 hours. Next stop, LA!
We've made it as far as Nadi, Fiji, where I'm using the world's worst keyboard to type this out as I wait for our plane tto Kadavu. The plane only holds 8 people, and there were 9 in our party, so 3 of us are catching the second flight. We killed a few hours taking a taxi into a nearby city, but I don't know the name. Was a bit strange, we were the only white folks around, and it was an Indo-Fijean area, so it was sort of like suddenly finiding yourself in Bombay. We bought a few things, braved a sidewalk food stand, and then came back to the airport to catch our next fllightt. I wouldn't expect to hear from me for the next 8 days though, I doubt I'lll find a computer annd net connection there, though the keyboard has to work better t han this one.
Today is my last working day before our vacation to [[Fiji]]! I won't have Internet access on this trip, heck, I'll be lucky to have electricity, so don't expect much in the way of updates. We'll be staying at the Waisalima Beach Resort on the island of [[Kadavu]], assuming all the travel goes as planned. I've been tanning (yes, in beds, like a girl) to brown up for the trip, as I plan on doing some snorkeling. I also have been reading a couple of books about Fijian culture, which is vastly different from our own, and from the culture of Tahiti. Anyone care to place bets on whether or not we can get my wife to drink Kava?
We just got back from seeing Transformers, which I expected to be extremely crappy, given that the director is Michael Bay. I'm happy to say that I was wrong, it's a decent movie, though not a great one, but certainly a fun way to spend a summer afternoon at the movies. Also, I want a new Camaro.
I got invited into the Trillian Astra alpha test today, and so far I like the software, though I haven't gotten the new MySpace chat plugin to work. Time to dig for some documentation...
This has been a crazy-busy week for me at work, one of my co-workers is out, due to illness in his family, and two of my other co-workers announced they're quitting soon. On top of all that, I have all the gear we purchased with our end-of-fiscal-year finds to set up and get working, and I'm trying to get a mini-presentation done for Monday about the new backup system I'm building. I need longer days, and more caffeine.
I made it to Atlanta, but I need to be up in 7 hours for training, so I'm going to bed.
Today is my 31st birthday. I'm going to celebrate it by mowing the lawn, and then flying to Atlanta for a week of training on Symantec's Backup Exec product. Exciting, I know. :) I did get an exciting gift though, a new Series 3 TiVo, from my wife, parents, and my grandfather!
We placed our order for three new MacBook Pros back on June 7, but Apple has been unable to ship them to us in time to meet our fiscal year deadline of June 30. Fortunately, the Apple Store in Des Moines has them in stock, so if all goes according to plan, a new purchase order will be issued this afternoon, and I'll be driving down to get them tonight. On Sunday, I fly to Atlanta for a week of training, and I'd like to have the new machine to take with me, even if it means I spend my Friday night on the road to Des Moines. Our purchasing deadline causes a great deal of stress each year, as goods have to be received by June 30, so every little hiccup or back order causes us a ton of work and headaches as we struggle to get purchased equipment delivered on time.
