Monitor Calibration?

Does anyone have any good tips for monitor calibration? I've hooked up a CRT and an LCD to my work machine now, and the picture between the two is vastly different in terms of brightness and intensity, and I'm looking for tips on the "right" way to calibrate all this stuff.
